Working with youth is one of the important areas of LORI work and it includes educations, providing support, empowering and building capacities of LGBTIQ+ youth for civic engagement.<\/span><\/p>

Youth can get involved in LORI as participants on activities and\/or events, as beneficiaries (of specific free service, for example) or they can take an active role in organising and implementing various activities, campaigns, social and cultural events such as: <\/span>festival Smoqua<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>European Testing Week<\/span><\/a>, speaking at panels and events, public actions etc. In that way they get empowered to work in the field of protecting human rights of LGBTI persons (for instance <\/span>#LORIIDAHOBIT2020<\/span><\/i><\/a> campaign), connect and make new allyships.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Youth group LORI<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

LORI launched LORI Youth group in 2021 with the aim to ensure a long-time engagement of youth in the local community. In the group, youth share their knowledge and skills about LGBTIQ+ topics, and via their meetings diverse hangouts, movie evenings, talks and\/or public actions and workshops get organised.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

LGBTIQ+ youth and education<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

LORI has been working on <\/span>combating homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in the educational system<\/span><\/a> since 2012, continuously holds lectures and workshops about LGBTIQ+ topics for secondary school students and ensures support for LGBTIQ+ students. LORI has published several publications for youth on combating peer violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity in schools and continuously advocates changes in the educational system in terms of including and protecting LGBTI youth\u2019s rights.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Furthermore, we organise Human libraries<\/span> in schools, hold lectures for several departments at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka (Pedagogy, Psychology, Cultural Studies) and we conduct internships for youth. An important part of working with youth in education is also carrying out research which is an important indicator of how to improve the system. In 2021 we conducted <\/span>Research into the experiences and needs of LGBTIQ youth in Croatia<\/span><\/a> which included 373 young LGBTIQ+ persons between 15 and 30 years of age who talked about the representation of LGBTIQ+ topics, violence experienced based on their LGBTIQ+ identity and what kind of support is needed during education from their perspective.<\/span><\/p>

In 2022 we created a page with <\/span>digital resources<\/span><\/a> that youth can use for empowering and information within project <\/span>\u201eSupporting Inclusive Education – Building a Safe Future\u201c<\/span><\/a>, with financial support of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as part of the EEA and Norway Grants.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
