As part of the project\u00a0\u201cCommon Point - Innovative approaches to training mental health service providers for the quality support of LGBTQI people\u201d<\/a>\u00a0organisations\u00a0H\u00e1tt\u00e9r T\u00e1rsas\u00e1g<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>Single Step Foundation<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>Prague Pride<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em>Lesbian Organisation Rijeka - LORI<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>have issued the Handbook for trainers of the same name. The aim is to develop an innovative and easily accessible material to train mental health professionals, in order\u00a0<\/em>to promote the design of personalised support programs for LGBTIQ+ people in their empowerment processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within the same project LORI has held successfully the 5-days training course on LGBTIQ+ topics for mental health service providers<\/a>, and recently we have presented the series of educational videos on various LGBTIQ+ topics<\/a>. Now with the Handbook we have issued, our intention is to increase the knowledge and cultural competences of mental health professionals (<\/strong>school counsellors, crisis hotline operators, employee assistance programs counsellors, social workers, clinical psychologists) on LGBTIQ+ topics<\/strong>.
The publication is in English, and is consisted of six general and four specific modules, intended for each target group. Through theoretical frames and diverse activities, the Handbook covers topics such as: LGBTIQ terminology, coming out, transgender and gender diverse persons, homophobia\/biphobia\/transphobia\/interphobia, LGBTI human rights and systems of oppression, personal prejudice etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Handbook for Trainers provides guidance for trainers who would like to implement trainings for mental health professionals with the goal of improving the professionals' attitudes, knowledge and skills related to LGBTQI+ persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topics from the Handbook will be a part of an e-learning platform<\/strong> (with a 16 hours online training program for above-mentioned target groups) that is being finalised and is to be presented soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together we\u2019re continuing to improve the support for LGBTIQ+ people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This publication was produced as part of the project Common Point - Innovative approaches to\n\ntraining mental health service providers for the quality support of LGBTQI+ people, co-funded by the\n\nEuropean Union\u2019s Erasmus+ Programme.
