For many years, Lesbian Organisation Rijeka - LORI has been systematically working to protect the rights of LGBTIQ+ persons and to inform, educate, and raise awareness among the general public, young people, employers, and various professionals about LGBTIQ+ issues and gender equality. This also includes creating inclusive environment in schools and workplaces, as well as addressing and combating the discrimination that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex persons in Croatia experience in various areas of life - from family and education, through the public sphere, to employment.
At the invitation of IKEA Croatia, LORI organised Human Library with LGBTIQ+ books in their premises in Zagreb.
Human Library is an interactive method in which the “books” are real people who share their experiences through open dialogue with “readers.” This gradually reduces deeply-rooted stereotypes and prejudices. In a safe and supportive space, through conversations with “living” books, anyone can learn what it is like to be a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, or non-binary person in our society, as well as the challenges they face. Through personal stories and direct contact, LGBTIQ+ persons - the “books”, share their experiences happening in the workplace, during job searches, and within their families.
Together with LORI, IKEA Croatia has continued to nurture equality, diversity, and inclusion, which are essential for building a society based on equal opportunities for everyone. LORI systematically provides educations on creating safe and inclusive workplace for LGBTIQ+ persons, as well as trainings on LGBTIQ+ topics and gender equality for professionals from various fields.
