Peer support
Peer support is an organised method of layperson support between certain groups or communities in which people with similar experiences help each other. This method allows for communication with LORI peer counsellors which are acquainted with the topics and everyday situations that LGBTIQ+ persons face. Furthermore, it serves as an important source of information, support and understanding, which is crucial for a lot of persons’ self-empowerment, facing fears and consequences in today’s society.
It is especially important for LGBTIQ+ persons from smaller towns and rural areas, where support is not accessible.
It is important to note that this type of support is not psychotherapy work and that peer counsellors that do counselling are not mental health professionals.
Peer support services are free, and are done in person, over the phone and per e-mail.
