Talks @Smoqua 2025: Inclusivity in the Workplace and Achievements in Activism

The ninth edition of Smoqua celebrates the power of togetherness, resistance, and past achievements through more than 20 events. Alongside exhibitions, workshops, films, performances, games, and a quiz, an important part of the programme are the panels and conversations that open up discussions about the realities of LGBTIQ+ people and women in Croatia and worldwide, as well as the specific challenges we face in all spheres of life – from family and the workplace to public spaces.

Panel: LGBTIQ+ Inclusivity in the Workplace

Thursday, October 9, 17.30 – 18.45
📍 Srce, VBZ bookstore, Korzo 9

How are public institutions, civil society organisations, and employers shaping a more inclusive future for all of us? At this year’s Smoqua, representatives of institutions, associations, and large companies will gather to share their approaches to diversity, equality, and inclusion in the workplace.

IKEA and Decathlon will speak about how they foster respect and equal opportunities for all, while the University of Rijeka will present its role in promoting inclusion and supporting LGBTIQ+ students and employees.

The conversation will highlight examples of good practices, concrete implementation steps, and inspiration for social change. This is an opportunity to hear first-hand how environments are created where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued – and to reflect on how we can bring similar approaches into our own communities.

Join the discussion and discover how inclusivity is not only a value but also an everyday practice.

Talk: Lesbian* Achievements in Activism: the Power of Togetherness²

Friday, October 10, 18.00 – 19.00
Circolo (2nd floor, Uljarska 1)

What motivated us? How did we come together and organise? What have we achieved so far? These questions shape a powerful regional conversation at Smoqua, as activists reflect on important moments and milestones of the lesbian* and feminist movements.

Through personal stories, organisational successes, and challenges in the field, the conversation will map decades of collective efforts for equality, visibility, and justice. Activists and drivers of social change: Danijela Almesberger (Croatia), Emina Bošnjak (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Tatjana Greif (Slovenia), and Elena Petrovska (North Macedonia) will share their experiences, challenges, and victories.

The conversation will be moderated by Tina Kovačić (Croatia), with an emphasis on the importance of solidarity across borders and generations – reminding us that every step forward has been made possible through courage, unity, and belief in change.

This is not only a look back but also a call to continue building movements rooted in resilience and mutual support. Come, listen, learn, and draw strength from the voices of those who paved the way for regional activism.
