Mavi Veloso and her Project TRANS @ Smoqua

Second day of Smoqua presents Brasilian trans artist with European address! Mavi Veloso is Brazilian artist currently based in Amsterdam. Transdisciplinary, visual and performance artist, dancer, actress, singer and songwriter, graphic and web designer. As transgender person and migrant from South America to Europe, in her productions, Mavi embodies and appropriates transformation process, conflicts and cultural adaptation procedures. Currently developing the project “#iwannamakerevolution”, about mutant and transit bodies.

Project TRANS is performance that festival audience will be able to see on Friday, 18th of May, 6pm at Citizens to their City (Križanićeva 6a). It is a transdisciplinary research that crosses video, performance, photography, fashion, queer and drag queen culture, a work in process with series of experiments and study actions made out of transits, walks through streets appropriating and creating performative ambiences. It happens from observation of the public space, it’s economic and social relations, contrasts and frictions of different cultures and the insertion of queer elements that may destabilise notions of normativity or normality, identity, gender and sexuality. Transposing the project to Smoqua, Mavi will experiment with performances in the public space in Rijeka, mapping and creating relations with the place, its characteristics and passers-by. The performances are built creating drag personas, appropriating elements and objects from the city and documenting performative states and reactions of the public. Visit Citizens to their City (Križanićeva 6a) second day of the festival and see for yourself!
