IDAHOBIT

Within the programme Combatting discrimination and protecting rights of LGBTI persons and women, LORI marks dates of particular importance for the human rights of LGBTI persons and women: International Women’s Day (8 March), International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25 November), Transgender Day of Remembrance (20 November), and others. Special emphasis is placed on IDAHOBIT.

IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia and Interphobia) has been observed in more than 150 countries since 2004, with the aim of raising awareness of the discrimination and violence experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex persons worldwide.In the Republic of Croatia, the observance of IDAHOBIT was introduced in 2011 by a decision of the Croatian Parliament, as part of the National Policy for Gender Equality.

At LORI’s initiative, Rijeka became the first Croatian city to mark IDAHOBIT by flying rainbow flags on the City Hall since 2013..

Since 2013, LORI has been organising IDAHOBIT week in Rijeka – various contents for LGBTIQ+ persons as well as for the wider community in collaboration with institutions, civil society organisations, and queer-friendly clubs and cafés. These events include film screenings, stand-up comedy evenings, campaigns, and other awareness-raising activities.
