LORI NEWS: E-learning platform on LGBTIQ+ topics for mental health professionals

As part of the project “Common Point - Innovative approaches to training mental health service providers for the quality support of LGBTQI people” organisations Háttér TársaságSingle Step FoundationPrague Pride and Lesbian Organisation Rijeka - LORI) have created e-learning platform! The aim is to develop an innovative and easily accessible material to train mental health professionals, in order to promote the design of personalised support programs for LGBTIQ+ people in their empowerment processes.

Within the same project LORI has held successfully the 5-days training course on LGBTIQ+ topics for mental health service providers, then we created the series of educational videos on various LGBTIQ+ topics, and recently we have presented the Handbook for Trainers, and organised very well received event Advancing Psychosocial Support for LGBTIQ+ Personsall with the intention to increase the knowledge and cultural competencies of mental health professionals on LGBTIQ+ topics.

Who is it all for? Primarily, materials are for school counsellors, crisis hotline operators, employee assistance programs counsellors, social workers, clinical psychologists.

The platform is in English, Croatian, Czech, Bulgarian and Hungarian and is consisted of six general and four specific modules, intended for each target group. Through exercises, reflections, quizzes, videos and texts, all providing specific knowledge on various topics: LGBTIQ terminology, coming out, transgender and gender diverse persons, homophobia/biphobia/transphobia/interphobia, LGBTI human rights and systems of oppression, personal prejudice etc.
